CULTURAL VALUES : what are the most important cultural values in the Tunisian culture?
Throughout
this paragraph we would like to highlight four important values in Tunisia :
1- Charity :
Tunisian peoples are contibuting to help others such as the case of the Libyan
refugees who find in tunisia a "suitabal home" .
2- Honor and
respect : are also very significant for ewample if a person loses his honor and
dignity he is ruined in the eyes of his family and community . This cultural
value dictates why tunisian peoples have always raise the slogan of honor and
dignity as a principal right in the revolution .
3- Privacy:
Tunisian rarely talk about anything that is personal .it's considered to be
rude to ask too many personal questions although asking about somebody's family
is generally considered to be good manners
4- Hospitality : Tunisian people supports each others , there are many organizations which take cares after orphans and homeless children in Tunisia .

GREETING: how do people greet each other in Tunisia?
Greeting is something that is said or done to show
people that you are happy to meet or see them
It is a message that expresses good wishes to someone .
In Tunisia people have specific decorum according greeting , which deals with many aspects :
* Strangers mostly just shake their hands .
* For formal relationships ( between colleagues or businessman ... ), shaking hands is considered as the official greeting .
* Relatives and friends tend to show their intimacy through kissing on the cheek and expressing nostalgia through hugs .
* Old women are an exception as they kiss each other many times on one side.

GREETING: how do people greet each other in Tunisia?
Greeting in Tunisia
Greeting is an act of communication in which
human beings intentionally make their presence known to each other to suggest a
type of relation ship and to suggest social status between individuals or group
of people coming in contact with each other.Every country has each own way of greeting for example in
tunisia people used many way of greeting .
Greeting depend on many field . First of all,
greeting depend on social status sush as
some tunisian people especially the poor start greeting high classes by shaking
hands to show respect .Second, according to the relation ship the evrey day
greeting for friends is a hand shake for both men and women, and sometimes kiss
on the cheek for both:(two times or more than that). Another way of greeting used by friends which
is a hug or a pat on the back.
Third, greeting also related to the age for example young people greet
each other by high-five or they shake
hands .But adults kiss on the cheek and also use a hug for close friends and
family and sometimes young people start the first to greet old people in order
to show respect . Finally, according to gender, women and men greet both male
and female by shake hands and kisses on the cheek especially for the close
friends or family .Sometimes men pat each other on the back.

GREETING: how do people greet each other in Tunisia?
Greeting ways in Tunisia
In Tunisia there several ways of greeting between people of different categories :gender ,age and position.
1/ Between men and women
: generally between a man and a woman who don’t know each other ,they
just greet with a handshake or oral greeting like saying :’’ salem or
bonjour ,how are you doing?’’And a man and a woman from the family or relatives it is
allowed to kiss each other on the cheeks along with the
handshake .
2/ Between women :
generally women are greeting with cheek kissing,
but the older women have a very special way of kissing especially old southern women of Tunisia:
o sometimes several kisses in one cheek.
o two kisses in the left cheek .
o four kisses in the right cheek .
3/ Between Girls: two close friends : young ladies have different greeting ways such as :
o a cute, light pinch on the cheek.
o high –five / a hug
o kisses in the air
o Pinch on the waist
o oral greeting: Ahla , cava ,cvn
4/ Between Men: they give cheek kissing or a
handshake.
Between close friends :
* a handshake *a pat on the shoulder
5/ Ages : generally the younger persons are the ones who start greeting the older.

GREETING: how do people greet each other in Tunisia?
There are several ways of greetings in Tunisia. To
start with the most knowing ones are the shake hand and the word “asslama”, it
is applied by all the categories, regions and genders. Also, there are many
other ways to greet. Each one is related to a specific category, region, and
gender. In south Tunisia for example,
the greetings differ from one region to another. In Tataouine, men greet by
kissing on the shoulders. In Matmata, old women greet by kissing many kisses on
one cheek and one on the other cheek. In Gbeli, the old men and women greet by
kissing the hands alternately. In north Tunisia, there are no specific
greetings. When they meet they greet by kissing two or three kisses each one on
the cheek.

To start
with,Tunisians in the north, in the formal meeting, they shake hands. Whereas,
kissing is for friends and relatives . As to do two women, two men,or men and
women. Moreover, most Tunisians are kissing each other only twice. That's means
kissing air. They also kiss each other
at every
meeting.
However, there are other ways of greeting in south Tunisia. For instance, women kiss each other four time cheek kiss(one on the left, one on the right, one on the left , one on the right . Additionally, some men greet each other by using their shoulders at the same time handshake.
